Day 119

Trek day 2:

Our shoes used to be clean... and it's only day two.

After we finished walking we played games such as horseshoes, jump rope,
and bobbing for apples!  In the evening we even got to square dance! 

Day 118

Trek day 1:
So far so good!  The pouring rain was not expected and everyone was relieved to finally set up camp, dry off, and go to sleep.  However, I love my new family for the week and pulling the handcarts is hard, but not too bad considering the fact that we have 11 people pulling one handcart.  I don't know how some of the pioneers pulled the handcarts with only one or two people.

Day 117

Tomorrow we leave for Trek!  We pull handcarts 26 miles over four days to get a taste of what the pioneers went through and sacrificed so we could be here.  I'm really excited!

Just like every week at church, today Nicholas climbed up on my lap to color.  Later today he said to me, "You know how back in the olden days when they had pigs?  Well, they were their garbage disposal!  The people just gave the pigs the rest of their food to eat."  He always tells me the funniest things he learns or thoughts he has!  

As I look at pictures of myself when I was little I am always surprised to see me making the same exact expressions that I often see him make.  If you know Nicholas, look at these pictures and try to tell me that he doesn't make these same expressions (the top left picture actually is Nicholas)!

Today I played with Mickey's softball team because they needed an extra player!

I don't actually play softball, so I played right field for an inning and left bench (as Marty would say) :)

Today was our last day in Chicago :(  It was an awesome day though!

Kay and I re-visited "The Bean"...

We walked the Magnificent Mile...

And we went to the Blue Man Group concert!

I had such a fun time!  Bye bye, Chicago!

We went on a cool architectual river cruise!

We also toured the University of Chicago, which is beautiful by the way, and this evening we ate delicious ribs!

I arrived in Chicago today with my aunt Jo Ellen, my Gram, and my cousin Kay!

We went to the top of the Sears Tower (well, now I guess it's called the Willis Tower), which was amazing!

Then we ate Chicago deep dish pizza! :D

I'm looking forward to a fun week!

One of the best things about summer is having so much time!  Everyday this week has felt like Saturday, but Saturday is just barely tomorrow!  And 9:00 dinner and late night ice cream runs just complete it :)

Today I hiked with Ruby, Zoe, and Mickey!  We all had a lot of fun! :D

...even saved a life (well provided a fellow hiker with bandages for his wound.)
